I have to admit, I was very skeptical. Soup mix from a bag? I received it in a holiday gift basket, and I wasn't sure what to make of it. I'm more of a clam or seafood chowder, not really crazy about just corn. Boy, was I in for a treat.
This soup mix is not only incredibly simply (and quick) to make, but it's delicious!! I added some diced ham for a complete meal, but I tasted it beforehand and it didn't need anything. As a corn chowder alone, it has a wonderful flavor and almost velvety texture! (Note: be sure to follow the directions to the letter; start with cold water and whisk well so no lumps remain).
You made a believer out of me, Old Mill! This is a hearty, wholesome, satisfying soup that hit the perfect spot on a cold winter's night!
We made a double batch because we bought the bread bowls this time. It was delicious! I could barely eat half of a bread bowl with the corn chowder - the bread bowls are very big. But they were an awesome addition to the corn chowder - we will be ordering more of both! It is an easy meal to make and lasted for almost a week. Very handy to have a nice batch made that you can just heat up and eat with the bread for lunch on a busy work day.
It was difficult to have the ingridients cooked well. They were some how hard!! Too much salt! for us!
